Position Overview & Specifications

Department

Based in the University’s External Relations directorate, the Communications team brings together specialists in digital communications, media relations, research communications, events and public engagement. Our mission is to advance institutional profile and reputation, and help build a strong University community who feel informed, supported and connected.

Role

The Creative Services Manager is responsible for managing a busy team of creative specialists who create assets to support campaigns and initiatives across all the University’s areas of business, including student recruitment, research communications and internal communications.

This role is also responsible for managing and championing our brand, as defined by our key messages, tone of voice and visual identity, to help everyone around the organisation communicate effectively with their stakeholders and the University’s value to the world.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a team of specialists in graphic design, photography, videography and editorial production
  • Overseeing creative outputs for flagship projects and campaigns
  • Leading the embedding of the University brand across the whole organisation
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the University’s Strategy and how the brand can support delivery of the university’s mission for public good
  • Offering creative input and proposals to communications projects, including working with brand champions in marketing and comms roles where appropriate
  • Managing our brand platform (powered by Bynder) to share brand assets, templates and guidance with the whole organisation

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Experience of managing a team of creative professionals in a busy, multi-client, multi-channel team
  • Experience of producing branded materials and campaigns for a range of print and digital channels
  • Experience of developing, managing and communicating a brand identity, ideally for a large and complex organisation
  • Expert knowledge of the principles, terminology, procedures and best practices of brand management
  • Experience of working with external creative agencies, including writing creative briefs, conveying brand requirements and overseeing quality of work delivered
  • Experience of engaging and supporting different parts of an organisation to communicate their offer cohesively but within the overarching organisational brand.
