Research Database Coordinator

We are looking for a Research Database Coordinator to join our neuromuscular department and work among the world’s foremost experts in myasthenia. You will be working on the first UK-wide database for patients with myasthenic disorder. Myasthenia refers to a group of conditions affecting the neuromuscular junction. These are broadly divided into myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton myasthenic disorder and congenital myasthenic syndromes. These conditions are all rare and data for research can be difficult to obtain. This database is intended to collect invaluable information on patients in the UK who are under hospital care with myasthenia and to make that data available to researchers.

The role will initially involve working with the team to liaise with NHS hospitals across the UK to recruit patients for the database. As the database is populated, the data collected will be made available for researchers across the UK and the role will expand to liaising with researchers to assist them in applying for and being given access to the data for research. The post holder will gain an understanding of myasthenic disorders and their relevant demographic, clinical, laboratory and radiological aspects. They will also get familiarised with the research questions underlying the data collection and learn the principles of data analysis.

The successful candidate will need to show excellent initiative, interpersonal and organisational skills to work as part of a wide network of healthcare professions and researchers. The candidate should also have at least 2:1 honours degree in medicine, nursing or related discipline. Experience with large registries or databases and data sets is desirable.
