Position Overview & Specifications

We are looking to appoint a part-time researcher (80% FTE) to work on an NIHR funded project developing, co-designing and testing an online arts and culture intervention for mental health in underrepresented young people. The work is led from Oxford by Professor Kam Bhui and Dr Rebecca Syed Sherriff, with University, NHS and NGO partners around England. You will be based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital, Oxford.
The post is for a fixed term (funded from 1st Aug 2023 to 30 April 2026 with possibility of extension until 30 April 2028).
You will use narrative enquiry to gather in-depth stories of experiences with communities and arts and culture from diverse young people from across England and further generate a conceptual framework for the impact of engagement with arts and culture including stories on mental health. Using qualitative research methods, you will further refine this for use in co-designing a refined intervention for mental health based on arts and culture.
You will hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant area, along with experience of in working with young people from underrepresented groups, to ensure they are supported during the recruitment, and the research process. With experience in the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data, and of NHS ethics applications, you will have sufficient specialist knowledge to work within established research programmes. Experience of peer research within a participatory framework would be desirable, as would advanced skills in analysis of narrative data.
