Position Overview & Specifications

LITE Research Assistant

Grade 6 (£28,762 – £34,308 p.a. depending on skills and experience)

This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Do you have an interest in supporting developments in student education? Do you want support pedagogic research and the scholarship of teaching and learning? Do you have experience of research in a social science or closely allied discipline?

The Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE) is seeking a Research Assistant to provide input, guidance and support for a range of research projects related to the student experience – both academic and co-curricular.

The research assistant will work within the LITE team to provide support to colleagues carrying out pedagogic research and scholarly activity related to teaching and learning. The role will primarily provide research support to LITE fellows who are investigating a range of topics related to teaching and learning. This will involve working with fellows in an advisory role, offering advice and guidance on aspects such as research design, data gathering techniques and pathways to impact as well as contributing to the research e.g. review of literature, delivery of focus group discussions or conducting analyses.

The role will also work with colleagues across the University to support campus wide initiatives such as evaluation projects or information gathering exercises.

Pedagogic research often takes a mixed method approach to exploring the topic, with qualitative research often seen as the most challenging for researchers. We are therefore seeking a Research Assistant who can apply their own skills and expertise to supporting and advising others.

You will have research experience in a social science or closely allied discipline and an understanding of pedagogic research and the pedagogic research process. You will have the ability to work well both individually without supervision, using your own initiative and also as part of a team. You will have research methods expertise, both quantitative and qualitative.
