Position Overview & Specifications

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

The Accessibility & Disability Resource Centre (ADRC) invites applications for a full time Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) Screening Adviser. You provide an initial screening service to students with specific learning difficulties as part of the ADRC team. You will also work closely with academic and support staff within university departments and within colleges, as well as with other professional services staff within the University's Student Services Centre. The post-holder will report to the Senior Neurodiversity Adviser and be part of the ADRC's Neurodiversity Team.

You will be qualified at degree level (or with equivalent relevant experience). and hold a post-graduate qualification in assessing and diagnosing specific learning difficulties (e.g. Patoss practising certificate or equivalent). You should have recent experience screening or assessing students for SpLDs. and an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of legislation, regulatory guidance and debate in relation to disability equality in a tertiary education setting. An understanding of and commitment to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) would be an advantage.

You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and expectations, demonstrating a commitment to equality of opportunity. The ability to work to deadlines in a busy support service environment is essential.
