Position Overview & Specifications

The role

This position is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual to act as Research Site Manager, working as part of a multidisciplinary team on a Child Public Health Trial within a leading Public Health department. Dr Ruth Kipping leads the study with collaborators at the Universities of Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff and in the USA.

The NAP SACC UK (The Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care) study is a currently underway multi-centre cluster randomised controlled trial evaluating an intervention in nurseries aiming to increase physical activity and health eating in 2-4-year olds.

What will you be doing?

The Research Site Manager’s role is central to the success of this National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded trial. The post requires strong organisational and research skills to support the remainder of the study (currently in the intervention period) for nursery settings within the Swindon and Somerset area.

The tasks will include organising the recruitment of children and parents in the trial; and data collection at follow-up, which will include BMI, accelerometer, photographs of food served and consumed, nursery characteristics, nursery observations, quality of life, cost-effectiveness data and process evaluation. You will liaise closely with childcare providers and parents by email, phone and in person.

  • Experience of public health research, particularly with children, and it excites you!
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams and able to manage your own workload to meet deadlines
  • Evidence of clear and concise writing of scientific project reports
  • Experience of quantitative data collection and reporting
  • Experience of recruitment
  • Ability to draft project reports and papers
  • Familiarity with ethical and legal requirements for medical research
