Position Overview & Specifications

Secret Cinema has been thrilling audiences for 15 years, delivering deeply unforgettable experiences, fusing the world of cinema and site-specific immersive entertainment. Audiences get the chance to experience their favourite characters and stories in a whole new way, and with titles like Moulin Rouge!, Blade Runner and Dirty Dancing, attracting over half a million visitors in the past 5 years alone.

With Secret Cinema coming to Birmingham for the first time ever, we are looking for a Sound 3 local to the area, who will support the Head of Sound and work alongside a team in the delivery of Secret Cinema's next Immersive Experience.

In this role, Sound 3 will assist in the operation, maintenance and repair of the audio needs for the live performances and site infrastructure. They will also work closely in a team with other departments including Lighting, Video and Production Management in order to aid a successful show run.

Key responsibilities

  • Reporting to Head of Sound and provide support to other department team members, when required
  • To ensure the smooth running of the production on a nightly basis including running daily system checks and regular maintenance sessions
  • To execute cues during public performances and monitor the departments technical systems distributed across the site
  • To live mix multiple radio mics and live musicians (including monitoring) throughout the production and to liaise with guest artists/dep musicians as required
  • To report working hours to the SD 1 & 2
  • Working closely in a team with other heads of departments including show running departments and Operations in order to support all departments where required and ensure clear lines of communication important for the smooth running of the show
  • To assist in the management of equipment and consumables owned by Secret Cinema, ensuring these are kept in good condition with regular maintenance and, if necessary, report any required replacements to the SD 1
  • To support the SD 1 in powering up and shutting down of all department technical equipment and systems
  • To uphold the high production standards expected and carry out duties associated of the role for a first-class production and the artistic quality required by the relevant director and/or designer
  • Maintaining good timekeeping throughout the project, arriving promptly and prepared for work as required by the call sheet/rota
  • To comply with the Company House Rules, Risk Management Plans during their engagement

Key Skills & Experience

  • Solid operational sound experience and excellent technical skills including proven track record of dealing with large scale and/or immersive productions
  • Plant 3A and 3B licenses
  • Experience with QLab playback and show control software
  • Previous experience with Yamaha processors & digital mixing consoles with Dante network audio also preferable
  • Self motivated, enthusiastic, proactive and able to supervise a team
  • Excellent communication, administration, time management and organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills, whilst remaining calm under pressure, and meeting deadlines
  • Flexible and self-motivated with the ability to work well with actors, musicians and other venue staff
  • Knowledge of Google Drive and Microsoft Office
  • Stamina, persistence, enthusiasm, motivation, and a proactive manner
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation and procedures

Desirable

  • Knowledge of event and theatre safety guidelines
  • Experience of working on temporary work sites and/ or Immersive & site-specific theatre
