The RSE is looking for an experienced Media Relations Officer who has a strong news sense with excellent writing skills and media networking experience to match.

This new role will be central in showcasing the work of RSE Fellows by bringing our important activities to life in the print, broadcast, and online media through effective and impactful storytelling.

Working with the Head of Communications, the role will span every aspect of the RSE’s work and will deliver our media engagement strategy at the local, regional and national level. Our new Media Relations Officer will work to increase our visibility and appreciation of our impact for the whole of Scotland.

We are looking for a talented and experienced individual to:

  • Play a key role in supporting media relations, securing national, regional and local online, print, and broadcast coverage for the RSE.
  • Build strong relationships with journalists to ensure the RSE is recognised as the go-to organisation for comments, information and stories.
  • Researching key media targets, developing media lists, and pitching ideas and stories to media.
  • Work with the Digital Communications Officer to provide content for a range of PR activities.
  • Working with colleagues, devise content including press releases, feature articles, op-eds, and statements, covering work across the broad spectrum of RSE activities and outputs.
  • Receive and respond to media enquiries, flagging to the Head of Communications and advise / brief spokespeople on media opportunities.
  • Monitor the daily news agenda to identify opportunities to act on and share with colleagues.
  • Display resilience and forward-thinking, always cognisant of the values of the RSE and its work.
