Public Health Apprentice

The Public Health team deliver across the four areas:

1. Health Intelligence - using data and evidence to inform all we do
2. Health Protection - preventing and managing outbreaks of disease
3. Health Improvement - helping people to improve and maintain their health
4. Healthcare Public Health Services - using evidence to support service development and delivery.

Your next role

This entry-level position, will provide general support across the public health teams to improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. This post is an apprenticeship position so the post holder will undergo formal training whilst learning on the job essential public health skills and knowledge.

As part of the role, you will also gain a professional qualification with the University of the West of England, called the Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship. This practice-focused course offers you a grounding in public health across different settings, including wider determinants of health, such as education, transport and housing. You’ll develop your critical thinking, analytical and appraisal skills, which you’ll apply to real-world public health scenarios. This could be in the form of role plays and simulations relevant to health protection, disease outbreaks and pandemics. On completion, you’ll have the eligibility to apply for accreditation as a Public Health Practitioner. So you will be able to progress to management or specialist roles in a range of public health areas including local authorities and the NHS.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

This apprenticeship would suit an individual with no experience working in public health and with no existing qualification in public health.
