Position Overview & Specifications

Reddit is a community of communities where people can dive into anything through experiences built around their interests, hobbies, and passions. Our mission is to bring community, belonging, and empowerment to everyone in the world. Reddit users submit, vote, and comment on content, stories, and discussions about the topics they care about the most. From pets to parenting, there's a community for everybody on Reddit and with over 50 million daily active users, it is home to the most open and authentic conversations on the internet. For more information, visit redditinc.com.

This role can be worked remotely from any of the following locations: London, Amsterdam, Paris or Brussels. However, regular travel to Brussels/London is required.

Reddit is all about community, which impacts everything about our company, from our product design to our user-led approach to content moderation. At a time when tech policy and regulatory discussions are accelerating worldwide, community-governed approaches like Reddit's must have a voice in the conversation. As Reddit grows internationally, it's important that we work closely and collaboratively with EU and UK politicians, regulators, academics, and civil society to help them understand the big issues that affect our business, our users, and the open Internet. We're seeking a Policy Lead for the EU and UK to lead our government relations and public policy work in Europe and the UK. Reporting to the Senior Director of Policy, you'll engage with UK and EU (and member state) elected officials, explaining Reddit's community-first governance model and educating them about the company and our users. You'll analyze legislation, provide strategic input on advocacy campaigns, participate in coalitions on behalf of Reddit, and engage industry groups, academics, and civil society on a wide range of tech policy issues. As a part of a global team, you will also undertake extensive cross-functional work with partners on Reddit's legal, safety, communications, and product teams. Ideal candidates will have solid tactical knowledge of both UK and EU legislative and governance processes and structures, be enthusiastic advocates for the free and open internet, and believers in community self-determination online.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with UK, EU, and member state government officials and staff to advance Reddit's policy agenda, both generally and in response to specific legislative or regulatory matters.
  • Participate on behalf of Reddit in relevant industry associations and coalitions.
  • Work cooperatively with outside consultants/lobbyists.
  • Develop strategic approaches for Reddit's government relations and public policy work in Europe and the UK.
  • Engage with civil society, academics, and NGOs to educate them about Reddit's unique model and where relevant, cooperate on advocacy initiatives of shared interest.
  • Closely follow UK, EU, and member state legislative and regulatory developments with potential to impact Reddit's business, and educate and advise cross-functional teams within Reddit about them.
  • Produce written briefing materials as needed for Reddit executive team and senior management.
  • Provide guidance to policymakers, advocacy groups, and other relevant partners on use of the Reddit platform.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience working in or engaging with UK, EU and/or member state governments and legislatures.
  • Professional spoken and written fluency in English plus at least one other official EU language (French or German preferred).
  • Familiarity with Internet technologies and the policy environments that surround them, or an aptitude to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues.
  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to summarize and distill complex legislation and processes for executives and cross-functional partners.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, sense of protocol, and comfort engaging with elected officials.
  • An intrinsically motivated and intellectually curious disposition, with potential and desire for long-term career growth.
  • Commitment to embody and uphold Reddit's Mission and Core Values.

Benefits:

  • Pension Scheme
  • Private Medical and Dental Scheme
  • Life Assurance, Income Protection
  • Workspace benefit for your home office
  • Personal & Professional development funds
  • Family Planning Support
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Flexible Vacation & Reddit Global Days Off
