Position Overview & Specifications

We have a great opportunity for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Consultant, with nature in their heart, to be part of a project working with properties across the three nations to help our organisation respond to the nature and climate crises.

The GIS Data Team lead on creating organisational value from data; ensuring our data is trusted, understood, well governed and that we maximise the value from it to deliver our strategy through data driven decision making.

Geographical Information (GI) is central to understanding where we are now, where we want to get to, and how to get there. Much of our land is tenanted and multiple internal and external stakeholders are being engaged to shape how this might happen.

Your contractual location will be at our Head Office in Swindon however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree a hybrid working arrangement which strikes the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will also involve travel to properties or regional hubs.

What you'll be doing:You’ll be responsible for a substantial element of technical GIS data editing and data maintenance as well as creating cartographic output from the data.

You’ll work collaboratively to accurately capture, manage, and analyse datasets that support the project and the organisations future business needs.

Your cartographic skills will produce mapping outputs to support the governance process and illustrate our strategic ambitions, whilst your GIS skills will assist in delivering training and guidance to ensure colleagues are able to adopt and embed new ways of working.

Natural Environment: Familiarity of working with and developing species, habitat, and ecosystem datasets.

GIS skills: Developing integrated datasets within the ArcGIS environment to produce analyses and tools for a range of end-users.

Collaborate: Working with both central and property teams to ensure our data is correct and current and meets the needs of the organisation in a timely fashion

Visualisation and interpretation: Your analytic skills will be deployed to produce a range of accessible outputs (including cartographic and tabular) to support interpretation for planning and delivery. This may include training and technical support.

Communicate: You will need to communicate in an informed way with countryside management and conservation-focussed teams - specialist and non-specialist staff - to interpret their needs to provide the required level of support
