Role and Responsibilities

Purpose: To work as part of a team to provide support to people with dementia and their carers in a day centre setting and in the community.

Main activities:

  • Supporting people attending the Dementia Service
  • Escorting people on transport to and from day centre or activity locations
  • Delivering a wide range of day-to-day activities suited to the needs and interests of everyone
  • Offering assistance in a caring and dignified way to support with personal care needs including meals and refreshments
  • Keeping people company and offering a listening ear
  • Giving reassurance to people who may be anxious and nervous
  • Supporting carers
  • Providing refreshments and snacks
  • Keeping all areas of the Day Centre tidy and well maintained
  • Working with the team to ensure support is tailored to each persons unique and individual needs
  • Support people in a way which maintains and promotes their independence, improves their sense of well-being, and to feel in control of their lives
  • Updating daily records using our information system

Person specification:

  • Caring, patient, sensitive and reliable
  • Good oral and communication skills
  • Understands the need for confidentiality
  • Can respond appropriately to different and sometimes difficult situations
  • Good reading, writing and note-making skills
  • Able to working independently and as part of a team
  • Able to respond, react and follow instruction
  • Able to maintain good time keeping and stick to a schedule

Training Provision:

All staff will undergo mandatory Induction training, including Health and Safety and Dementia Awareness. Additional training offered will depend on the individuals previous experience and skills.

Times of work:

Hours to be worked flexibly during the hours of the service, arranged in advance, on a rota basis. (The Dementia Day Centre is open 7 days a week 9:00am 6:00pm)
