Our Cambridgeshire highways team are looking to recruit an experienced Assistant Highways Design Engineer, with experience within Highways design, to join our team based flexibly in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Reporting to the Highway Engineer, you will play a vital role in our Cambridgeshire Highways team, responsible for the design of a wide range of highway schemes from major road improvement projects to local cycle infrastructure and active travel schemes. This role offers the opportunity to see and be involved with the construction of your schemes on site as part of our integrated design and delivery (estimating/environment/construction) team. Our designers are closely involved with the construction phase of their projects. The role is flexible with 40% office, 60% working from home.

As an Assistant Design engineer you will need:

  • UK Design and construction experience within the highway sector
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD & Civils 3D
  • ​Civil Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of design standards including DMRB & MCDHW

As an Assistant Design Engineer, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Assist with undertaking designs and producing design packages for target cost and construction
  • Produce technical reports and other technical output to achieve project outcomes
  • Undertake site visits, surveys and investigations
  • Utilise design software including 3D modelling and MicroDrainage;
  • Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with QSE standards and processes
  • Technical training/supervision/peer mentoring of Technicians
  • Working collaboratively with customers and other stakeholders to understand and develop project objectives
