Staff Nurse - Cardiac Cath Lab Trainee

KIMS Hospital, Maidstone is the largest independent hospital in Kent and we are recruiting. A very rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Staff Nurse with an interest in interventional cardiology to join the only Private and Self Pay Cardiac Catheter Laboratory in Kent as a trainee Cardiac Cath Lab Staff Nurse, working to develop specialist skills and gain expert cardiac knowledge.

Our Cardiac unit is an 18-bed unit that has 2 state of the art GE Cath Labs. One Lab specialises in Cardiac Intervention such as Angiography and Angioplasty and the other in Cardiac Rhythm Management including Pacing, Complex pacing and EP including AF Ablation.

As a Staff Nurse in the Cath Lab you will be fully trained in pre-assessment of Cath lab patients, processing the admission and recovery of patients, scrubbing and running for procedures, gaining knowledge in coronary angiograms, PCI, Pacing and EP Studies etc. Once your training is complete you will take on the role of a fully competent Interventional Suite Staff Nurse.

You will be an enthusiastic and passionate nurse with a valid NMC PIN and an interest in interventional cardiology.

This is a full-time permanent post working Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm, 9am – 5pm or 10am – 6pm.

Role Responsibilities include:

• Providing care and support to patients throughout their pathway with KIMS Hospital including pre-operative assessment right through to discharge
• Scrub for a case load of patients undergoing cardiac procedures including catheterisation, pacing and ICD fitting
• Ensure the patient experience and well-being remain at the heart of the business at all times and best practices are implemented and maintained within the Cardiac Cath Lab
• Assist the cardiac technicians and radiographers as necessary in placing ECG electrodes, setting up transducers and preparing equipment ready for procedures
• Day to day duties of a cardiac nurse including taking bloods, cannulation, performing angiograms, pacing’s as well as assessing and monitoring patients

Person Specification:

• Be a confident and enthusiastic nurse with a current NMC registration
• Be fully trained in resuscitation and have the ability to handle emergencies appropriately
• Possess the ability to scrub for more complex cardiac cases
• Demonstrable knowledge of current nursing and clinical developments.

A postgraduate course in Cardiology such as ENB 124 coronary care nursing or ENB 254 or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
