Position Overview & Specifications
- Identifying and measuring key characteristics and properties of membrane components (ionomers, reinforcements, additives) and correlating with performance and durability metrics including the development of new test methods where required.
- To lead trials and investigations that support multiple membrane projects through Idea to Launch phase in accordance with NPI framework including planning, developing and performing trials/experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and reporting and proposing next steps within a multifunctional team.
- Input expert knowledge into the design of in-house membrane products compatible with high volume manufacturing requirements in order to enable supply of products to the emerging fuel cell and electrolyser markets.
- Evaluating manufacturing routes and helping to define SOP and specifications in combination with Process Technology for new membrane products to enable robust manufacture of in-house membranes
- To support raw material qualifications and ensure specifications are in line with internal QC standards to ensure fit for purpose raw material supply into JM processes.
- Technically evaluate continuous improvement activities such as the evaluation of lower cost materials and scaled-up manufacturing processes.
- Degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering). – Essential
- Proven ability to design and undertake experimental work, process data and use analytical skills to interpret the results and make recommendations. – Essential
- Understanding of the properties of materials applicable to fuel cell membranes (ionomers, reinforcements, polymers, additives) – Essential
- Understanding of fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies. – Desirable
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment, preferably with experience of high-volume manufacturing. – Desirable
- Good working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft applications - Essential
