Position Overview & Specifications

About this teenager:

Felix (16) lives at home with his Mum, Dad, and younger sister. Felix likes activities such as swimming, immersive exhibitions, going to cafe’s and second hand shops (with his support workers), and going to open spaces for slow walks. At home he likes spend time with his family and play with his sister or just chill and watch a movie or being read to. Felix has Epilepsy, learning disabilities, slight cerebral palsy, autism and is non verbal.

He has food orally and a PEG in place for liquids and medication. Felix can walk short distances and uses a wheelchair for longer walks.

Overview of role:

Felix requires a support worker to assist him with all his needs; all his personal care, feeding, dressing, and playing. Felix has also some additional medical needs that the support worker would be trained in.

Waking night shifts involve preparing medications and administering these, bathing and getting Felix ready for bed, sometimes still watching a movie with him or ready him a story, then monitoring Felix for seizures and encouraging him to have a good night’s sleep and relax. You would need to be awake during these shifts and observe him throughout.

Throughout the day and night Felix can have epileptic seizures that present in various ways and need constant monitoring.

Hours :

Two nights (26 hours)

Nights: Sunday & Monday or alternatively Monday & Tuesday waking night shifts: 8.00pm to 9.00am and occasionally a day shift (normally 8 hours).

The ideal candidate would also be interested in covering for colleagues when they are away (holidays etc). All the training is initially during the day.

Family Pets: 1 friendly big Dog

This position will suit someone who is interested in special needs, psychology and or nursing and ideally has already some relevant experience with disability and autism.

Someone who is proactive and who likes to be active but is also patient.

You would join an already existing very loyal friendly team. You could be a student.
