Position Overview & Specifications

Are you looking to work in a busy and developing environment of Theatres?

We are looking to recruit, ODP’s and anaesthetic nurses on full time and part time contracts to work within the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust on both our elective and acute/ trauma sites.

We provide a range of specialities including, orthopaedics, neurosurgical, Gynaecology, upper Gastro-intestinal, urology, plastics and paediatrics to name a few. With the scope of movement between specialties for development as time progresses for the right individuals.

The trust is building a new stand-alone dedicated Day Surgery Centre within Castle Hill hospital grounds in order to improve facilities, expand day surgery provision and reduce the number of inpatients across all sites.

This will be incorporating four additional theatres plus support services, to further aid and help tackle our growing list of day case procedures. This will comprise of 12 operating theatres and will be a regional centre of excellence.

We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a dynamic approach to their work and have commitment, drive and enthusiasm , you will be encouraged to work as part of a strong team and become involved in developing your own service.

You will need to be prepared to work within a busy environment and we do expect staff to be flexible in their approach to cover for other specialties once trained.

Individuals must have a flexible attitude to working patterns to meet the service needs.

There are various shift patterns covering the 24/7 period – although predominantly the work is during the day there is a requirement to participate in night and weekend working to cover acute service or the potential for weekend and on call provision for the elective site services .

The successful candidate will be prepared to rotate between the disciplines of PACU, Theatres and Anesthetics working , Within a busy environment and will be forward thinking and passionate about delivering a high standard of care.

As a teaching hospital applicants should have an enthusiastic approach to teaching students and junior members of staff.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring the effective running of the department, practicing a high standard of clinical care and being key to improve the patient’s experience. The post holder will supervise the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care during their span of duty and support and encourage the concept of team working, team development and collaboration between team members

The post requires 24 hour rotation and weekend working.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust strongly encourages new starters to have the Covid-19 vaccine. However, it is not a mandatory requirement to work for us.

HUTH has two main sites: Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital with an annual budget of approximately £500 million. The Trust employs around 11,000 staff and serves an extended population of 1.25 million, delivering a number of outpatient services from locations across the area.

The Trust’s secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services. These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.

HUTH provides specialist and tertiary services to a population of 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively.
