MIS (Management Information System) Team Manager - Onsite, West Lothian

Up to £80,000 per annum


Our West Lothian based IT consultancy client is currently seeking a strong and experienced MIS Team Manager to join their team. Supporting a large manufacturing customer this will be an onsite role in the West Lothian area.

The primary responsibility of this role is to contribute to the success of the MIS Operations within a Manufacturing client organisation. This role will include the management of team members providing the MIS service, as well as driving improvements in the organisation.


The role responsibilities will include:

  • IMS Department Management:

    • Develop the annual MIS departmental targets and objectives and ensure that they are met

    • Develop the annual MIS departmental budgets for overheads, capital expenses and manpower

    • Monitor, control and approve the MIS department spend

    • Review of annual contracts for 3rd party suppliers of MIS services, and agreement of new contracts introduced for new services

    • Perform annual staff appraisals and development, including training

    • Support the recruitment of staff for MIS Software Development

    • Develop and review IT policies and ensure that all employees comply with the policies


  • Technical Oversight:

    • Manage departmental support for business applications, including Infor XA, SCE, EAM, Xi, Presence and Mint

    • Ensure that all software development requests raised by departments are recorded and prioritised

    • Assign resources with suitable skills to project requests to meet company targets

    • Ensure all software development and maintenance works are carried out professionally

    • Fully document all software development and maintenance work carried out, which will include detailed specifications and flowcharts

    • Ensure that software development and modifications to existing systems are fully tested by MIS and support testing with all relevant departments

    • Ensure Change Management procedures are followed for deployment of new software or modifications and upgrades to existing systems

    • Ensure all IT tickets reported to MIS are logged and documented properly

    • Assist department users with IT tickets for any queries or problems that they may experience with the business applications

    • Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery procedures for the IBM iSeries server


  • 3rd Party Management:

    • Procurement of 3rd party software, hardware, consultancy, software licenses, etc

    • Carry out annual audits requested by 3rd party companies


  • Problem Solving:

    • Identify problems or areas for improvement and implement solutions

    • Review new products and services with external suppliers, that would improve or benefit working procedures in company


  • Organisational Communication:

    • Communication to management for MIS activities and proposed plans/improvements

    • Attend weekly MIS meetings with other members of the department to communicate current issues and projects

    • Attend meeting with other departments when requested, relating to business applications and work procedures

    • To carry out annual audits requested by the client


To be successful as a MIS Team Manager you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Have excellent working knowledge of the key elements of the Manufacturing process and environment

  • Strong general IT skills

  • Articulate in both written and verbal format

  • Demonstrates clear leadership

  • Develops good working relationships and builds trust with stakeholders

  • Manages and mitigates risk

  • Demonstrates an analytical and systematic approach to issue resolution

  • Allocates responsibilities and/or packages of work, including supervisory responsibilities

  • Good organisational skills and able to work to deadlines

  • Able to contribute to IT Services financial management

  • Able to report on and present required information at internal meetings

  • A keen attention to detail with strong analytical skills

  • Punctual and well presented at all times

  • To demonstrate a mature approach to dealing with clients and professional associates

Desirable knowledge:

The technical activities conducted within the MIS team are wide and varied. Although these activities are not the direct responsibility of the MIS Team Manager, experience and knowledge of these technologies and applications would be advantageous:

  • Ensure that all IBM iSeries scheduled backups are successfully carried out and where necessary take any remedial actions

  • Perform annual role swaps to test Mimix High Availability (HA) software to ensure Infor XA and its interfacing applications can function as required in the event of loss to the main production server

  • Develop and maintain business applications, including Infor XA, SCE, EAM, Xi, Presence and Mint

  • Perform software upgrades which requires support from 3rd party software suppliers/business partners

  • Support regular upgrades to the IBM iSeries Operating System

  • Support any performance issues and carry out regular housekeeping on IBM iSeries servers

  • Support hardware or operating system issues identified by Service Express on IBM iSeries servers

  • Report Infor software issues to Infor Support portal and support with the recommended actions, such as apply Programs Temporary Fixes, corrections for corrupt data
