Position Overview & Specifications

The main duty of the post holder is to take calls for assistance from wards – departments provide a portering service to all wards and departments, to carry out routine ADHOC duties - dealing with all enquiries and deliveries -booking transport for wards – departments.

Monitoring Trusts car parking - Dealing with enquiries and complaints.

Liaising with the Porter Team Leaders on day to day matters.

To provide a portering service to all wards & departments. To escort and convey patients by wheelchair, bed or trolley
To distribute food trolleys and boxes – and food items
To transfer various specimens or bloods to the pathology department and other wards and departments
To collect prescriptions and drug books from wards and departments and deliver them to the Pharmacy department
To distribute and change medical gas cylinders as requested
To attend fire calls
To assist at cardiac arrests
To transport records, X-rays, furniture, equipment and materials
To undertake mortuary duties as required - viewings, BID’s
To cover staff in the post room - sorting incoming and outgoing Mail - distribute to all wards and departments
To collect general clinical, waste - cytotoxic refuse and sharp boxes from all areas on site if required
Attends mandatory training courses
Ensure that when a deceased patient is transported from the ward they are treated with due dignity and respect.
Operate a communication device to keep in touch with other staff in the department.
Booking taxis when needed & keeping clear records of requests for taxis especially the full name of the person who has authorised it.
Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, these include moving & handling, resuscitation, infection control, clinical governance, fire training and Dealing with Conflict training. Training in safe handling of medical gases
