Job Description – Product Developer

Key Purpose of Job:

Responsible for the development of products for a broad range of Elms partners.

Create the size specifications.

Manage the sampling process, including all embellishments, from start to completion, highlighting any issues and offering solutions.

Check and report on sample sizes and conduct test fits.

Liaising with Managers, Designers and Merchandisers to ensure the product needs of the business, and the partner client, are met and professionally executed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the product development process and ensure the critical path and the delivery dates meet the clients expectations.
  • Negotiate costs and shipping methods that meet the needs of the business and ensure the costs are controlled and delivered.
  • Place purchase orders and sales orders on the system (Sage 50).
  • Control the sampling process for all parts of the process including trims and applications.
  • Create the size set specifications and ensure these are adhered to.
  • Assist in the development of product tech packs working with the designer.
  • Work directly with factories to ensure smooth production (this may occasionally require factory visits.)
  • Carry out QC checks.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, product safety and legislations.
  • This is a full time, office based role, working within a small dynamic team.

Knowledge and Experience

MUST have experience in the fashion/sports apparel industry

  • Must have at least 3+ years experience in a Product Development role.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of garment construction and the product development process from start to finish.
  • Have experience of dealing with external factories in Europe and the Far East.
  • Have exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage many projects simultaneously whilst always maintaining attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate strong Microsoft Office skills particularly Excel.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, a strong work ethic, integrity and reliability.
  • Excellent communication and interaction skills at all levels.
  • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment under short deadlines
  • Have experience of using Sage 50 would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Fully coherent of both the design techniques and product development processes relating to apparel and graphics, including a keenness to keep up to date with the latest products, styles and techniques.
