JOB TITLE: First Aid Officer

REPORTS TO: SENCo

DEPARTMENT: Administration / Pastoral

PURPOSE OF JOB

A First Aid Officer is required in our First Aid Room. Under the guidance of senior staff,the postholder will undertake administrative and organisational processes as required and lead with the administration and running of the of the First Aid Room.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Organisation & Administration

  • Deal with health & medical matters as required
  • Act as first point of contact for health & medical matters
  • Oversee the administration of First Aid and medicines as appropriate to students and staff, accompanying students to hospital in emergency situations, liaising with senior staff and parents and ensuring the completion of incident report forms and the medical book.
  • Plan and facilitate the immunisation programmes throughout the year. Liaising with the local immunisation team and school
  • Ensure compliance with school policy related to health & medical matters
  • Supervise, train and develop staff as appropriate
  • Liaise with the school nurse who attends weekly throughout the year.
  • Identify, set up and manage manual and computerised records / management information systems as required
  • Liase with external companies and agencies
  • Maintain necessary medical records
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers, exchanging information and facilitating their support. Liaise with parents and carers as appropriate.
  • Undertake duties to support Administration roles with the school, including telephone enquiries, redirect calls, pass on messages to others as required and deal with face-to-face enquiries with colleagues, students and visitors.
  • Provide administration support e.g. photocopying, filing, emailing, completing standard forms and responding to routine correspondence.
  • Provide assistance and support with routine phone calls to parents/carers and complete forms to accompany these.
  • Maintain manual and computerised records / management of information systems.
  • Produce lists / information / data as required, e.g. student data.
  • Support all students with accessing an education

Resources

  • Operate relevant equipment/ICT packages (e.g. word, excel, databases, spreadsheets, SIM’s,

Internet)

  • Monitor and manage first-aid stock cataloguing resources and undertaking audits as required
  • Provide general health and medical advice to staff, students and others
  • Undertake research and obtain information to inform decisions
  • Provide general advice and guidance to staff, students and visitors

Support for the School

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Contribute to the overall ethos / work / aims of the school
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
  • Responsible for Health & Safety management in own area

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure the effective implementation of school policies with particular regard to safeguarding
  • Carry out other duties that may reasonably be required by the Headteacher
