Position Overview & Specifications

Job description

We are welcoming applications for our new post of part time Communications Officer to support the growth of our charity, Children and War UK. We are offering an opportunity to become an integral part of our friendly and dedicated team and to make a significant difference to the lives of children, families and communities who have been affected by the trauma of war and natural disasters.

This post will initially be for one year, with the possibility of renewal, and the post holder will be based remotely from home and be self-employed. We are looking for someone who can work flexibly up to 30 hours per month (3 to 4 days spread across the month) with an hourly rate of £20-30 depending on experience (to be negotiated at interview). Depending on location and the needs of the work, there may be a possibility of occasional meetings in London.

We are looking for an experienced, well organised and enthusiastic person with excellent communication skills. The role will involve writing for a range of media, adapted to local, national and international audiences. One key role will be to maintain and deliver content on our website about our training, fundraising and research activities. This position would suit someone who is self-motivated, who can work flexibly and be confident working independently, using their own initiative, as well as having excellent interpersonal skills.

This is an exciting and diverse post, which gives the opportunity to play an integral role in promoting and developing the reach of our work. You will be joining a growing team who are passionate about helping children affected by trauma. You will be well supported to deliver and develop this valuable role for the Charity.

More about Children and War UK

Children and War UK was established in the UK in 2021 and is closely affiliated with the Norwegian Children and War Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation. Sadly, so many children are affected by the trauma of war and disasters, and their lives, families and community can be torn apart as a consequence. The proven trauma recovery techniques developed by Children and War and the Children and War Foundation can help to reduce the long-term psychological effects these events have on young lives.

Our key work is to provide training to enable professionals to reach large groups of children from affected areas and support them in providing interventions to help the children cope with their fears and trauma. The people that we train can go on to cascade the training to others in their community so more children can be reached as early as possible.

Note that we are simultaneously also recruiting for a second part-time position, as Administrator and Data Manager..
