Position Overview & Specifications

About the role

The Youth Justice Service is a multi-disciplinary team delivering services to prevent and reduce offending behaviour amongst young people.

There are currently available one permanent post in Huntingdon and a fixed term post in each of Cambridge and Wisbech. All three posts are nominally part time but it may be possible for one successful candidate to cover two of the posts on a full time basis.

The Wisbech post is a fixed term cover for a seconded Probation Officer / Probation Service officer but the role will primarily carry out the role of a Youth Justice Officer. The other two posts are for Youth Justice Officers, one of which is covering for an internal secondment. It is intended to interview for all 3 posts at the same time with the strongest candidate getting the choice of posts.

Experienced practitioners are needed who are able to work with a wide range of young people who enter the criminal justice system.

The fixed term posts currently run until Summer 2024. While they have office bases it is anticipated that at least half the time will be working from home or away from the office. There is the possibility that in the fulness of time the fixed term contracts could be extended or even become permanent.

Secondments from within Cambridgeshire County Council are welcome, but agreement from the current line manager will be required. Interviews are planned for the 16th June.

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Jonathan Sloane, Matthew Pink, Steph Burrage or Tom Watt on 01223 507220

What will you be doing?

The positions are in a very challenging but rewarding area, working with young people who have offended ranging from those who haven't yet reached the court system through to those in prisons. The successful candidates will manage caseloads of community and custodial sentences ensuring effective assessment, intervention planning, review and risk management. To effectively divert young people from offending, the post-holders will be working with a range of other team members whose roles include substance misuse, psychology, accommodation, victims, education, training and employment.

About you

Applicants will ideally need a qualification at diploma level or above in a relevant subject such as social work, youth work or probation. The roles involve working with offenders, courts, risk assessment, report writing and with partner agencies, so experience in these areas is important.

If you would like to apply, please consider providing evidence in the supplementary information of how you meet the job requirements outlined in the job description / person specification.
