Position Overview & Specifications

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. Working as an Assistant Psychologist in an integrated Stroke Early Supported Discharge Service and Community Neurorehabilitation Service, you will be passionate about neuropsychology and ideally have some experience in the field or if not, have transferable skills. This is a permanent position, so it is a great opportunity to be well supported if you wish to apply for Doctoral Training, or if you are wishing to work in the field of Clinical Psychology/Neuropsychology.

You will form part of a dedicated full MDT providing evidenced-based assessment and intervention across the South of the region and into our hospital community inpatient beds.

You will be supervised by an experienced Clinical Psychologist, and join four other Clinical Psychologists, an Assistant Psychologist, and Trainee Clinical Psychologists. There is also opportunity to meet with Psychologists from across the Trust for CPD. We have close links with UEA Doctoral Training Course.

You will join a dedicated team who make a difference to patients, carers and the teams you work with. You will contribute to the effective running of the integrated service by being a motivated and supportive team member. You will support the delivery of evidence-based assessment and intervention and will support the patient’s recovery journey. You will show a good balance of initiation and seeking support and direction. You will leam how to interpret neuropsychological test scores, communicate these to different audiences, and write brief reports.

The service works across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area and you will have a base in a South location (Hinchingbrooke or Brookfields) depending on home location. We are currently working in an agile manner, working from home and seeing patients in their own homes/stroke inpatient beds, and being in base if needed.

The team has strong links with Cambridge University Hospitals, North West Anglia Hospitals and Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Kings Lynn.

Key Responsibilities
  • To carry out neuropsychological assessments (under the supervision of the supervising Clinical Psychologist) and feedback information to clients, their carers, and other agencies as relevant to the situation.
  • To build up and develop resource materials for use in individual and group sessions.
  • To assist in the preparation, coordination and delivery of psycho-educational groups for clients with long term neuro conditions.
  • To liaise with relevant Social Services personnel and attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings where required.
  • To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of clients across the service and across all settings where care takes place.
  • To carry out joint initial assessments with other neuro rehab team members.
  • To work alongside all team members as appropriate to the client needs and provide a psychologically informed perspective under supervision of the qualified clinical psychologist.
  • In common with all clinical psychologists, to receive regular clinical supervision from an appropriate Clinical Psychologist within the service in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
  • To maintain good links with other psychologists and assistant psychologists in the locality and to attend appropriate professional meetings as agreed with supervisor.
  • To attend and contribute to regular inter-disciplinary team meetings.
  • To attend meetings and training related to professional development, as agreed with supervisor.
  • To work within the risk assessments undertaken within the Team.
