Position Overview & Specifications

Job Summary

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Research Officer/Data Analyst to start in September 2023.

The purpose of this post is to support the Head Master and other members of the Senior Management Team. The successful applicant will be highly numerate, literate and able to work independently and as part of a team. An ability to analyse and handle quantitative data will be essential, including a proficiency in using Excel to this end. An ability to undertake qualitative research will also be desirable. The successful candidate will work from Olivier House: a suite of offices located on Brighton seafront and a short walk from the College campus.

The following indicate some of the principal tasks and responsibilities:

  • Analyse and collate both internal and external data from various sources. As this may, on occasion, require access to confidential information, the successful candidate will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement on appointment.
  • Research educational matters of topical interest, as directed by the Head Master and members of the Senior Management Team.
  • Present research findings in written reports and oral presentations for different audiences.
  • Assist with presentations for speeches.
  • Undertake any other reasonable research tasks requested by the Head Master and other members of the Senior Management Team.

What we are looking for:

  • An ability to analyse and handle quantitative and qualitative data.
  • A genuine interest in working within a school setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Friendly and approachable manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent IT skills, including all Microsoft packages.

Safeguarding responsibilities:

  • This rôle will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
  • All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.

Hours of work:

  • This rôle will be full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 8.30-17.00, Monday to Friday with a one-hour unpaid lunch break each day.
  • The rôle may require occasional evening and weekend work, and some overseas travel may, on occasion, be required.

Holidays:

  • 20 days, increasing to 25 days after 2 years' service (in addition to bank holidays).
  • Where possible, these should be taken during the school holidays.
  • Subject to operational requirements, additional days may be awarded during the period between Christmas and the New Year.
