Job Title: Water Environment Intern
Department: Environment
Reporting to: Ground and Surface Water Manager
Salary – Competitive salary
Hours - 40 hours per week, 26 days holiday per year
Term – Fixed-term contract of between 40 – 50 weeks to suit the successful candidate. Starting between August and September 2023.
Purpose of the job
The intern will assist with site water management and on-site water monitoring of construction activities. They will assist with site visits and reporting on effectiveness of mitigation measures to ensure the protection of the water environment. They will also assist the environmental site managers with planning and implementing environmental management measures.
Responsibilities
The role will involve the following:
- On-site monitoring of ground and surface water on site, collection of samples and visual inspections for impacts of construction activities on surface water bodies
- Site inspection reports and recommendations
- Monitoring and oversight of drainage and water treatment systems on site
- Assisting with monthly monitoring reports, environmental audits and water and environmental management plans
- Incident investigation and monitoring and incident reporting, along with implementation of incident management and mitigation measures
- Working with site teams and environmental managers to implement on site water and environmental management practices
- Preparation of reports and data for communication to stakeholders
Skills & Experience
The applicant should have some background knowledge of environmental management, geohydrology or water processes (at least 1-2 years of university level education) and should be enthusiastic and eager to learn.
Qualifications and experience should include:
- Able to apply for CSCS card
- Must be available full time
- Must be able to swim – H&S requirement due to working at proximity of the water
- Good interpersonal skills and be comfortable operating independently on site without guidance
