Job Description

ActivSTEP is a well established independent company that delivers bespoke web based applications for businesses looking to make operations more efficient.

We are looking to grow our business to meet an increasing demand for our software applications. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be involved with an exciting growing company, seeking to build a small team of developers.

You need to have an overview of the key technology stack (PHP, MySQL, HTML5, JavaScript and CSS) as well as being motivated to complete jobs to our customers satisfaction.

This job would be well suited to a web developer that has some experience of the stack and wants to focus on more of the back end coding aspects.

There will be an opportunity for the right candidate to expand their skills and knowledge within this role, whilst learning on the job.

Job Summary

You will be responsible for the build of web based applications for customers business processes. You will be able to work with other developers or under your own initiative to translate customer requirements into working applications. Whilst building the applications you will need to be mindful of the UI/UX aspects of what you are building so that it is easy for the end user to adopt.

You will have responsibility to interface with customers to clarify aspects of the requirements specification and respond appropriately to any queries or issues raised.

You will have the ability to work with other team members to gain the key skills needed to build the applications. You would also be expected to have a certain amount of self motivation to learn, using resources available such as appropriate online forums.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the applications are of a high quality and will be required to conduct sufficient testing to ensure users experience minimal errors during the adoption phase. Where issues do occur, an open honest approach is required to ensure any problems can be resolved quickly.

Tasks:

Your tasks will include:

  • Interfacing with customers to communicate how systems work, discussing requirements and correcting issues
  • Writing code within existing frameworks to build bug free functional applications that clients rely on for their core business
  • Documenting aspects of the code
  • Suggesting improvements to existing code frameworks which make internal build efficiency savings or provide added benefit to customers
  • Taking responsibility for the quality of the code you have developed including thorough testing.
  • Supporting the growth of an in-house development team
  • Providing excellent customer service by meeting agreed timescales and ensuring professional proactive communication with customers

Qualification

You will be ideally educated to a degree level with a suitable software related qualification. However, I am prepared to take candidates that can demonstrate a track record in back-end web development.

Desired Skill Competencies:

  • Key Coding skill in PHP, MySQL, HTML5, JavaScript and CSS
